The question that many people ask is “whether you see the glass as half-full or half-empty.” The one identifies an optimist and the other a pessimist. I look at it differently. I am happy to have a glass.

By appreciating what we have, we open our lives to joy. These are very tough times. People are suffering. Some people are bitter because they cannot get a haircut or play golf. Other people are concerned that they will not be able to pay their bills. All these concerns are real and are significant to the respective people. It is not our job to judge other people’s sufferings. Judging others leads to arguments and division. We have enough of that going on in politics; we don’t need to bring more into our lives.

Think about the good things that you have in your life. Think about the beauty that surrounds you. Allow yourself to be happy even though your mind wants to frown. Put a smile on your face. You will see that just smiling will allow you to feel less anxious.

There is a lot of bad stuff in the world right now. All you have to do is turn on the News and you will be bombarded with it. Instead, choose happiness. Choose appreciation. Thank yourself for getting up and taking care of yourself. Nobody does it better.
