“Perseverance” is defined as “persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.” We experience perserverance in others all the time. From Eliud Kipghoge breaking two hours in a marathon in Vienna to landing on the moon. Humans don’t say “I can’t;” they instead say “why not?”

Very few of us will land in the record books. But that doesn’t minimize our individual accomplishments. Losing weight requires perseverance as does exercising or going to work under the guidance of a controlling boss. We all have accomplished something in our lives that either we or others did not think was possible. Yay for us.

Take time out today to pat yourself on the back and say “good job.” Mr. Kipchoge may be faster than over 7 billion people, but there is only one “you” in the world. Celebrate your uniqueness. And should you find this challenging, I have confidence in you, just do what we all have to do at times, namely, persevere.
